4/27/14 Sic/Sick Week

Hey Fam,

This week has been sick. . . . .  in more ways than one. 

Tuesday- We went on splits again with our Ward Mission Leader and YSA preparing to go on their missions. It has been working very well for us to cover more ground and see as many people as we can see. Also our YSA's member missionaries are really getting pumped for their missions! So we will keep doing it and see what comes from it.

Wednesday- Another amazing day, we continue to be busy teaching every hour from 11 till 9 so it is awesome. Two cool stories, The first is about a less-active and is about 23 and is kind of struggling in his life. He has been LA for the past 3 years. His brother is the Ward Secretary, so we stopped by and had a sweet lesson with him. He let us know that he had been praying for someone to help him and we knocked at his door long story short,  we are working with him and hopefully, he will serve a mission! The next is a guy was baptized 2 years ago and was preparing to go to the temple where he was told that he couldn't get a recommend unless he cut his dreads. (He looks like Chris Johnson off  the Tennessee Titans, dreads and chains and gold teeth). So he went LA for a short time but  same thing, we went over, showed him some love . . . just listened while he talked and he wants to come back as well. So things continue to roll forth.

Thursday-I woke up with a really sore throat and headed to the doctor, to find that I had strep throat, I’ve never had anything quite like it. I got some meds and rested for the next 3 days because I could barely do anything else. I had to be better by Sunday.

Sunday- We had 3 baptisms so I couldn't miss it. The doctor told me that I was good to go to church I wouldn't be contagious, so I manned up and went and had some baptisms. The Lord truly healed me so that I could go. They were Sam, Joyce and a recent converts daughter Simpiwe! I’m running short on time and still not feeling up to par but I will I'll tell you more about them next week!

4/20/15 Another Great Week

April 20,2015

Gooooood Morninggggg everybody!

 Another week in the life of a missionary and it couldn't be better. It has been one full of splits, cold weather, and serving the people here in Rabie Ridge. I'll start with a funny story, this lady that is preparing for baptism felt like she needed to repent for killing a chicken. She continued to confess to us her sin in killing the chicken for about 10 minutes before Elder Ainslie and I started laughing and tried to  help comfort her.

Tuesday- So we went on Splits with our Ward Mission Leader and one of our YSA's preparing for his mission.

They both should be getting their mission calls in the next few months so hopefully I will be here to see it all happen. Anyways we had an awesome lesson with a Part-member family. The husband is in the Stake YM and works at the temple every Sunday and all the kids are active but the mom is not a member yet. So we simply taught her about the Savior and she said that she is ready to learn about the restored gospel!

Wednesday- We met with a former investigator. He and his friends all have taken the lessons before and were on date, but got jobs on Sundays and got "busy" so they couldn't meet with the missionaries anymore. So we met him on the street . Pretty amazing guy that is very talented in the arts scene. Anyways he re-taught his friends about the priesthood and apostasy.

Thursday-Weekly planning and exchanges with Elder Allen. He some baptism interviews for us.

Friday- Meetings

Saturday- Helped a less-active guy wash his car, threw some rats in the dust-pins and went on splits again with our YSA's preparing for their missions. We met a less-active family and invited them to church. Their daughter came and the rest will be coming next week!

Sunday-President Dunn came and did some interviews and it was another great Sabbath!

4/13/15 April showers brings May flowers!

                                                                                                            April 13^th, 2015

Hey Family,

Another week has flown by and Elder Ainslie and I are having the time of our lives. It seems like we have a lot of people that continue to progress and grow, and hopefully be baptized in the month of May. Sam and His Mom had their baptism pushed back two weeks, but the 26th will be their special day! So it has been a great week and "we hope the weather continues" Guess that movie quote :)

Tuesday- A pretty amazing miracle happened. One of the families that I've been emailing you about, had something pretty amazing happen. The husband was baptized in Zimbabwe but has been less active since. To complicate things, he hasn't been able to come to church because he works on Sunday and supports the family. So we all have been praying that he will find a new job and when we showed up to see him, he was  leaving to his new job as a security guard! It’s amazing to watch the Lord at work.

Wednesday- The rain absolutely poured down and Elder Ainslie and I were absolutely soaked. So we knocked on the door of this less active family and they had mercy on us and let us in. Really iit was a great way to get in their homes and we have some return appointments with them. We also saw Jethro, who continues to share the gospel with his family. After visiting with the less actives, we went and taught his brother and his family who are all on date for the 24th of May. The man is definitely an angel. 

Thursday- Weekly Planning today. We saw Kcalisto and his 6 kids. Pretty amazing to see the change and getting them all back to church. We also have started making muffins for members and dropping them off. Needless to say the members are loving Elder Ainslies baking skills.

YM/YW Missionary activity

Saturday- Pretty awesome day, The stake YM and YW combined to have a missionary experience day. So we got paired up with a Priest and Laurel and got to go to the area together. My companions were Gavin  and Naledi.Gavin is a rugby star who is looking to play professional rugby so we had a good time together. He had never been in a township and was scared for his life. Even though he was a monster compared to all these people on the street, he was scared for his life to leave my side. hahaha. It was a great experience. So in the picture he looks like a missionary minus the badge. Then we had a closing activities and Pres and Sis Dunn came and then we went back home.

sunday-church :) Always crazy busy but so grateful it is!

Well, We hope that our work will continue to bring forth some beautiful May flowers :). I love you all and have another amazing week!

4/6/15 Sorry about last week. . . . .

Hey family,                                                  4/6/15

First things first, I'll apologize for last week. It was pretty hectic from going to meetings and dropping of other elders so this week you'll get an email. This week definitely has been one to remember. The first Easter away from home really felt like I was in the right nest lol. We had another amazing week with the theme of "Week of Witnessing" where we spent extra time each and every day specifically testifying of the Savior and His Resurrection. So I'll get to the week!

Tuesday-Transfers, we dropped off Elder Kolditz who will be returning home to Indiana after a crisp 2 years and we picked up a new elder. Elder Tye from SLC. Turns out that he played basketball for Viewmont and we played each other. We then saw our investigator Sam and his mom who are preparing to be baptized this coming Sunday so pray please for them!

Wednesday- April Fools Day :) Ainslie and I weren't fooling around but other people were, that what you get when you’re the youngens’. Everyone was away so it was pretty slow and then at night time we got a call from the other elders that a family all the way across our area needed a blessing and they couldn't make it over and they had the car. So we tightened up our bags and jogged for a half an hour across our entire area to find out that it was...............April Fools Day- I’m trying to have a sense of humor  :)

Thursday- Weekly Planning and we started off watching the restoration video with a less-active family. The father, would asked me every time he saw a different animal, ,"which one is that one?" In his high pitched voice. I’m not sure how much of the video he got but we did get all the animals down.  I can't tell you how hard I was laughing when  Ainslie and I left. We’ll try again now that we have the animals taken care of. We also had a tender moment with one of our less-active sisters. We cut up Morojo for her and shared an Easter message about the atonement with her. She told us how she knows the church is true, but is just going through some difficult things in her life right now. She is a pretty amazing lady.

Friday- District meeting and we did some stoplight contacting. Our zone passed out 3000 cards in a little over an hour! Lots of contacting.

Saturday- I can’t remember right now. . . . .

Sunday- Easter Sunday turned out to be a little disappointing. So we show up to church at 8:30 and it turns out that our bishop cancelled fast and testimony meeting the night before and conference viewing wouldn't start until 11. So all of our investigators and less-active people that we invited showed up and just left :( pretty sad day, we work so hard to get them there and now they will have a great experience To top it all off,  conference didn't even work because they forgot to download it and we lost signal as we were streaming it live. I was a little sad about that, but we finished the Easter night at our Relief Society Presidents home and had an awesome lesson with her and her daughter.

Even though Easter might have not panned out the way we planned, it was amazing to see the true meaning of Easter. How are Savior lives and because He lives we can experience the joys of the restored gospel.It truly changes lives and I am blessed to see it and many other wonderful miracles as I serve the amazing people of South Africa.

3/31/15 To busy to finish. . . . .

Ola, ola familt,

 Another week has gone by here in South Africa and March Madness is shutting down. Can't wait to see what next month has in store! I'll cut to the point. Elder Ainslie and I have had a TON of miracles the past couple of days so I'll enlighten you. It starts last Monday.

Monday- As we were walking down the street, we both remembered a less-active returned missionary we met on the street a little while earlier. Turns out that we had lost his phone number and address so we couldn't find where he lived. As we turned down the street to go to our last appointment we here "Elders! Elders!" We turned around and boom, it was him. Crazyness!

Tuesday-Another day at work, we are trying to see as many of the less-active people as we can and it is going well. We were able to find a mom and her daughter who used to be very active and have kind of fallen away. We invited them back and they have been the last two weeks!

Wednesday- Worked :)

3/22/15 Best Kind of March Madness

Hey Fam,                  3/22/15

March Madness continues on and this week we were blessed to have a couple of baptisms. It was a boy and girl. They are the children of  an amazing lady who was a referral from another family that was baptized .She is such an amazing lady didn't feel ready but really wanted her children to be baptized so it was awesome. As March Madness continues to escalate, Elder Ainslie and I had another mad week of great experiences.

Tuesday-I started feeling like I was coming down with something. So I took some Ibuprofen and went into the area. It was pretty rough, I must say but something amazing happened. Every time we would open with a prayer at the beginning of a lesson it seemed the pain would go away and as we would close with a prayer it would come back again. So we had some amazing lessons. We taught two people that was a referral from the lady whose children we just baptized. 

Wednesday-The sickness continued, we didn't have the car today so we walked everywhere. Even worse is that it rained the entire day, I learned walking in the rain while being sick is one of the most miserable things. We had another amazing day. Jethro continues to learn and grow in the gospel and was ordained on Sunday. He is amazing, church is becoming a big family reunion for him as he is inviting his ENTIRE family to come to church. He has 15 brothers and sisters that have families of their own. Lets just say he is a gold-mine. We finished up the day teaching a guy who wanted to know about what happens after death. lol we dropped a ton of puns about the restoration. He said he felt the spirit very strongly testifying of the plan. So another miracle!

Thursday- back to a 100 percent for me, but I gave the sickness to Elder Ainslie. He was a warrior and went into the area as well. We met a man , who has been to church. He is going through some struggles, namely he separated with his wife and she passed away. So he has a lot of great questions that the gospel can answer. We finished the day at the lady’s whose children we just baptized and got everything ready for her baptism on Sunday! Elder Ainslie finished the day at the toilet throwing up. :)

Friday-Ainslie basically died, he slept for 14 hours. So I played housewife and cleaned and cooked and got everything sorted. Call me Cinderella.

Saturday-Prayers were answered and Ainslie was healed. I'll share an amazing experience that we had. We met this less-active lady named Sister Covenant. She is amazing, she was married to her late-husband for 13 years. They had 2 kids and were sealed in the Jo-Burg temple in 2011. He passed away in 2013 and she has been less-active since. So we found her and went and shared a message about families with her. She said she felt joy that has been missing in her life while we were there. Soon she will be back to church.

Sunday- Madness continues with the 2 baptisms. The baptisms went flawlessly and Elder Ainslie baptized the young man, and I baptized the young girl. The most awesome thing was we had about 10 investigators at the baptism. Each of them came to us after and said they wanted to be baptized. AFRICA IS BLESSED and I am grateful to watch each miracle the Lord sends.

The madness continues and Elder Ainslie and I are experiencing joys of the work. The church is true and it's simpleness is something that is absolutely beautiful.

Fun SURPRISE for Elder Broadhead with  Zac Card

March Madness continues here in Rabie Ridge and Elder Ainslie and I put together our best week together so far! Before I get to it, I had an unexpected arrival this Sunday. We had a prime member travel 16 hours to attend church this week, yes it was Zac Card. Zac and his mom came and got to experience church in a Rabie Ridge.Yes. . . it was approved by Pres. Dunn. It was awesome to see him and hear about his mission call.

Tuesday-We had zone conference. President Dunn gave us some great advice to help us continue on in the work! We got back and met with Lizwe (the less-active member from Zimbabwe ) and his family. They will be put on date pretty quick just got to clear up some problems. I also borrowed a little kids ripstick and got to shred through the township a little bit, the kids thought I was Tony Hawk lol. 

Wednesday-A verrrrrry verrrry busy day. Elder Ainslie and I did a lot of teaching. One of our recent converts, Jethro, is absolutely powerful. He is going teaching with us and we almost spend an entire day teaching different members of his extended family. Reminds me of Lehi and the tree of life. He is tossing out fruit to all those around him :)

Thursday-Weekly  Planning and getting lost. In one of my last emails, we met a guy named Kcalisto. We drove around forever to find his place and eventually stood in a middle of an intersection so he could notice us. Anyways our hard worked paid off . He and his wife hadn't been to church since 2010 and they have 6 kids and 3 are unbaptized. So another awesome family to work with. 

Friday-District Meeting and teaching :) we finished off at a members house and had a brie. It was a farewell brie for Elder Kolditz who is going home in 2 weeks. 

Saturday- another day of working :)

Sunday-Stake Conf and Zac Card and exchanges.

Well, Time certainly flies. While talking to Zac it was amazing to see how fast time moves. I hope you all have a great week and enjoy March Madness for me!
